Long fingers tugged at the blue woolen coat that surrounded the small form. Her legs were wrapped thin track pants and the wind was cutting at every gap her coat. She pushed the car door closed and walked into the park. The sun was just peaking through the clouds, she had come here to run, but her legs took her to a bench. She told her self she would only sit for a moment as she gazed at the cloud spotted sky.
Kalasin still wasn’t used to the Forks weather, it was almost always overcast and somehow it felt more like the English countryside than in the middle of Washington. She was free here though, free to live her own life, well, to finally start a life for herself. Ana wished she had brought her Ipod, the silence was doing her head in, and her mind was rolling over and over her life. What was she going to do here? She needed a job, though she had plenty of money, she needed something to keep her entertained. Ana was positively fretting about how she was going to meet people, every other time she had moved, she’d had school to help her make friends, now she was going to community college in Port Angeles and no one there had been friendly. Boredom was not exactly something Ana was used to, but in Forks, well maybe she would just have to get used to it.
Dark eyes scanned the park, it was too early for any kids to be here yet, there was no sign of life anywhere. She tried not to panic, it would be fine, and she would figure life here out, eventually. Ana ran a hand through her hair wishing she had brought coffee or that someone would wake up. This town was started to feel like a deserted alien planet… that was probably just the tacky horror movie from last night speaking.

Emmett jogged through Forks in the early morning, tossing a football to himself after kicking it around on a nearby oval all night, away from human eyes. His big jacket was a mere charade, as no human would come outside in this weather in less. It was light now and he resisted speeding home while he was still in the town. Nobody should be awake this early, but he was taught to be cautious, as much as he hated it so he jogged.
Emmett rounded a corner and saw a car parked next to the park. A small lone figure sat on a bench nearby, inadequately dressed for Forks' freezing temperature. Emmett glanced at the sky, checking the sun was well hidden. He jogged on quietly, ready to ignore this human. He wasn't thirsty having fed recently, but he resisted making friends with humans, they too easily got suspicious.
However, something about this person made her look cold and sad, and in need of a friend. Emmett slowed, rolled his head back and walked over to her, taking off his jacket. He sat next to her and offered it to the girl. "You might want this. If you didn't notice its a little cold out." he smiled.

Ana’s fingers were frozen, they were frozen and she should be running, but the clouds were growing and it was hypnotizing to watch. Why did she choose the small town? She supposed it was a side effect of watching to many fifties movies where the lead female always ends up in the perfect white picket fence town. Fingers tugged the coat tighter, which seemed to be an invitation for more wind. Well she was never going to have the picket fence life but she could at least have a more settled one, open a business and… what the hell was that?
Large eyes whipped around to catch a giant sitting next to her offering her something. Ana’s brow creased in a question “What makes you think I’d take a gesture from a completely intimidating stranger?” Her breath caught in her throat as her eyes slowly took in the giant’s features. He was beautiful, she couldn’t explain it in any other way, he was beautiful and completely terrifying. She fought the urge to slide away from him, and won, suspiciously easily. The girl gripped her coat even more tightly, it was no warmer with him sitting next to her, in fact she could have sworn it was colder. Her head began to swim.
Ana forced her eyes to the ground, she had been gawking and would have blushed if it wasn’t so cold. Another gust of wind pulled her out of her thoughts and whipped her hair out if its pins. A small, barely visible grin pulled at her lips, she liked how the wind here had character. Perhaps she was too hasty in refusing the jacket.

Emmett raised his eyebrows at this girl. She seemed a bit shocked by him, but that was normal with humans. Intimidated too. But surprisingly feisty. Emmett had been taken aback by this response. He usually won these arguments.
Another gust of wind blew thought the empty streets and her scent filled my nose. I froze. She smelt absolutely delicious. It wasn't as strong as what i'd experienced a long time ago, which was very lucky for her. He took a deep breath through his mouth and held it. He must remain inconspicuous.
"Hey now, I'm not completely intimidating, am I?" he smiled, warmly. "And you must be cold."
Before the girl could reply, Emmett threw his coat over her with one fluid movement. She may be his intended prey, but he had turned away from that road. Holding that breath he smiled again and glanced back at the sun to check, but luckily a large tree behind the bench was blocking any rays which might stray from behind the clouds.

Dark eyes peaked up at him again, determined to not be dazzled by the stranger. He had an odd look on his face, like he was fighting with his own thoughts. Her long fingers played with a loose thread in her flimsy coat. He had a nice voice, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that it was more a device for luring than communication.
“Uhm..” Ana frowned at her loss of words and turned her gaze back to her thighs. His coat settled around her shoulders and she barely noticed she was concentrating on replying. “Well, yeah, look at you!” She bit her lip, not exactly what she was thinking but non-committal enough…maybe. Her brow creased, his coat was cold, but it stopped the wind amazingly well. She glanced up at him “But aren’t you cold? I mean its nice, but...”
Ana’s fingers fiddled and gripped at her coat, she was uncomfortable next to this beautiful stranger. She was bland, she felt black and white next to him. “I'm Ana.” She said it without looking at him, uninterested, casual, all of which she couldn’t do when she looked at him.

Emmett laughed to himself as this Ana asked if he was cold. He was good at lying now, it was pretty much second nature. He looked at her kindly, continuing to hold his breath, which was hard while speaking.
"Nah, I'm not cold. I've been running and playing football." He held up his ball and smiled. "I'm Emmett."
Emmett's hand gripped the side of the bench, furthest away from Ana, his hand breaking through the wood as another gust of wind blew past them. The noise from the howling wind luckily was louder than the breaking of the wood. Emmett wondered where Jasper was, because he could sure use his help.

Ana’s brow wrinkled at Emmett’s reply. “You were playing football by yourself?” She muttered, not really wanting him to hear, maybe he was some psycho. He looked kind, not at all like a schizophrenic or something. She returned his smile. Emmett was an odd name, well nothing compared to hers, but it seemed old fashioned. She straightened his jacket over her small shoulders, it dwarfed her.
The wind mussed Ana’s hair and she could have sworn that the bench shivered in the gust. The wind had character, but it was also kind of scary. She sighed at looked at Emmett “Are you sure you’re ok?” He looked odd, it was starting to worry her.
Ana’s hands itched to return his coat, surely he wasn’t that altruistic. Why had he come over here? He obviously wasn’t hitting on her. Fear settled in the back of her mind. This was like a scene from a horror flick.

Emmett smiled at the response to his football comment, but pretended not to hear. Jasper had joined him at the start, but left when Alice had called so he had been kicking the ball then speeding over to catch it himself. He smirked and relaxed his posture in answer to Ana's question.
"I'm fine. Just got a leg cramp for a second there." he lied again.
Her small frame made him feel larger than usual, but Emmett liked it that way. Being bigger than everybody made Emmett feel happy and protective. He looked back at Ana, wondering if she was planning to stay here long. He was curious as to when Rosalie would be back from hunting, it had been a few days since he'd seen her and he missed her. Emmett twisted his ring on his finger and stared at the playground.
"So, new in town?" he asked casually.

The corners of Ana’s eyes crinkled at his excuse, a cramp? How often had she used that one on the gym teacher. At least he seemed better now, his posture had relaxed, she smiled realizing how close she was studying Emmett, it was as if every muscle twitch was telling a story. She shoved a small hand through her mussed hair and attempted to re-pin it. “Fair enough…” She wished she wasn’t quite so suspicious.
Emmett twisted a ring, it looked like a wedding band. This comforted Ana somewhat, he definitely wasn’t hitting on her, he was thinking about his woman. Unless he was extra creepy with a serve of creepy fries. She shoved the last pin into her wavy hair and nodded. “Yeah I am, been here a week or so, but it takes awhile to set up a house.” She hoped that sounded warmer than her other comments. Ana didn’t really want to be rude to this guy, he seemed nice, she was just getting used to the small town idea, she hadn’t thought that the people here would be so small town as well.

The girl started to relax and this made Emmett relax too. She was fidgety and played with her hair. This girl was very different to Rosalie, who never had a strand out of place. Emmett leant back against the bench and spun his football in his hands.
"So why Forks then? Was it the warm weather and the sunny beaches?" he joked, "Or maybe the wild city life?"
Emmett quite liked this town, especially because it was so cloudy and he could be out during the day. Most other people however, seemed to despise the weather here and could not wait to escape. Emmett wanted to stay as long as they could. He looked back at Ana. She seemed to be warming up slightly, even though he knew his jacket had been cold when he gave it to her.

Emmett spun the ball in his hands with ease, Ana watched, wondering how boys seemed to be so comfortable around footballs, the times she had played football it had looked more like a clowning act than sport. She snorted at his joke, “Well no, obviously. Uhm I guess I just wanted to finally settle someplace different. Though, if I get bored, it wont be too much effort to shift again.”
The wind caught the bit of bare skin at Ana’s neck and she shivered. She grabbed the edges of his jacket and was glad he had turned up with it. She really needed to go shopping for some serious cold weather clothes. Ana glanced at Emmett’s clothing, he didn’t exactly look like the small town type either, he looked like the rich effortlessly suave ex sportman or something… Ana raised an eyebrow at him “Why are you in Forks? You don’t exactly look like the type.” She eyed a man who was bringing in his garbage bins, life in Forks was beginning to wake. The old man was dressed in a tacky green wet weather coat and a home knitted sweater, a grin tugged at the edges of Ana’s lips.

Emmett smiled at her question, and looked at the cloudy skies with a half smile. Another gust of wind blew her scent towards him, but he forced his posture to stay relaxed. He focused on tracing the stitching on the ball.
"I like it here, and so does my mom. And my dad works n the hospital. I guess my siblings like it too. Lots of space and forests... and long roads to drive on." he grinned.
And grizzlies to hunt. Emmett added to himself in his head. He thought about his Jeep back at home, and thought about asking Rosalie to go for a drive to Seattle soon. He came beck to reality as somebody across the road loudly put their bin lids down.

Long fingers ran through Ana’s fringe, she glanced at Emmett through lowered lashes. She couldn’t fight the perfuse feeling to run and the other strange feeling to slide closer to the large stranger. Ana’s polite grin cracked as he spoke. His dad worked at the hospital? Siblings? A frown creased her brow, could he be one of the famous … “You’re a Cullen aren’t you?”
The town talked about the Cullens, the pale, beautiful family of seven… well eight plus that … Swan… Ana hadn’t quite got the story but they all talked of the Doctor Cullen and his family, especially the youngest son, the spouse of the Chief’s daughter. Ana had laughed at the stories that had sounded straight out of a soapy. It was silly small town gossip, just a city family, obviously well preened, who moved to Forks. But now as she looked at the giant sitting beside her it wasn’t hard to understand why they talked.
Ana blushed, “Sorry it’s just, you’re like the Boo Radleys of the town… I have heard ridiculous things.” A small smile pulled at her lips, “Though they had the intimidating thing down.”

Emmett raised his eyebrows when Ana asked about his family. So people were fast to warn in this town. Emmett didn't blame them. It was a small town and gossip was rare. He rolled his eyes and turned to Ana.
"Yeah, I'm a Cullen. Being taken in by Esme and Carlisle was the best thing that ever happened to me..."
He looked into her eyes and half smiled.
"But are we really that intimidating?"
Although Emmett loved this town, and he loved his family and Rosalie, he was annoyed with not being able to make friends because people were always either too weirded out, or thought they had a chance with him. There would be no other but Rosalie, but still he wished he could have a friend apart from his siblings to talk and joke with when things were troubled.

Emmett spoke of his adopted family as if they had saved his life. Ana supposed it was possible but for her, adoring parental figures was a strange idea. Despite the life saving possibility, which was made more possible by the fact that Carlisle was a doctor, the idea still put a crease in Kalasin’s ever observant brow. Parents, who needed them anyway?
Ana snorted, it was more a sound of disbelief than something a pig would do. With a sigh she turned to face the stranger, he was huge, his skin was so pale it almost glowed, his eyes held you like a snakes and there was something about him that told her to run whilst pulling her closer to him. “Yuh, you totally are, I mean look.” She indicated to him with a flick of her hand. “What are you? Like something out a horror movie?” A light laugh escaped Ana’s lips.
Long fingers played with the metal bar that protruded through the bridge of Ana’s nose. “I don’t mean to be rude or anything, you seem nice but when you don’t know that, you’re pretty damn scary.”
